About Volunteering

Here are some ways you can get involved in our Telecare Team:

1. Become a Distress Line Volunteer

Are you a good listener? We provide each of our volunteers extensive training on a variety of topics surrounding isolation, grief, loneliness, mental health/addictions, and common population groups who access our services. We also provide each volunteer free SafeTALK certification training, which makes a great resume enhancer, while providing vital skills to identify when callers may be considering suicide.

We currently request that all Call Room volunteers attend a blend of in-person and online training in Orillia, Ontario, and are available for in-person shifts in our Call Room. In the future, there may be more opportunities to volunteer remotely.

Call Room Volunteers are encouraged to commit to one 4-hr shift each week or every other week. We also offer 8-hour night shifts, which is great experience for individuals considering crisis counseling experience.

2. Join our Fundraising Team

Fundraising is vital for charitable non-profits! In today’s economic climate, the majority of grants and available funding sources do not include organization staffing or operational costs. We want to take care of our staff well, so they can – in turn –  take care of our volunteers and communities!

Our Fundraising Team will meet regularly to brainstorm, discuss, and initate auctions, special events, corporate/business partnerships, in-kind donations, and community presentations.

3. Apply to our Board of Directors

We are currently seeking Board Members with previous non-profit, fundraising, legal, or accounting experience.  We have a diverse Board of Directors, including individuals and past volunteers with different employment and lived experience. Our Board meets one evening a month by Zoom.
